Best Rear Tyre (Tire) Size For Tuned N54

Hi all,

First off excuse my spelling of the word, Tyre (Tire), it's how we do it over here . I've had a little search but there's no definitive answer so I'll ask...

N54 135i - Cobb Stage 1 (tune only, planned FBO)
Stock Tyres - RFT 215/40/18, 245/35/18
Suspension - Eibach Pro Kit (planned coils), 12mm spacers all round

I'm so sick of the RFT's on my car, they were 'OK' when I wasn't tuned but now the thing slides all over the place and spins up so easily as soon as I press the throttle with such a rock hard tyres, it'll do this in the dry so easily right through 3rd gear...don't get me started about wet weather performance.

I need something more grippy, I get that going to non-RFT will help things no end due to the less rigid nature of the tyre but as I plan on keeping the stock 261M wheels, will a wider 255 rear tyre be sufficient at controlling tune only and FBO power? I know that the arches limit me to space so realistically a 265 may no tfit on lowered suspension & spacers.

Obviously hand in hand with upsizing the rear is the front and 225 seems popular which is probably what I'll go with.

How do you all cope with your 225/255 setups and gettung the power down?
