Saw my first one in Andover on Rt. 28 a few weeks ago.
According to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_ActiveE, 1100 worldwide, 700 for the US, so even more rare than 1M.
Of course on the North Shore there is the Turner ActiveE, although from the side with it's 335i wheels, lowered suspension and removed graphics, it looks like a regular 1 series:
