The sad truth is that most BMW buyers could not really tell you what the essential differences are between a 1-series and a Mini. They only know that they look different and have different badges (one of which they are willing to pay a lot more for than the other).
I was just at an Atlanta BMW dealership a few weeks ago. Not one car on the lot had a manual transmission. The dealer there told me that customers treat BMW, Lexus, Benz, etc., interchangeably. So, blame the stupids.
