The only thing i could think of was that the studs can make wheel changes easier by being able to rest the wheel on the studs and then you can start spinning the nuts on whereas with bolts the rim can only be rested on the hub and can potentially be more difficult as the wheel can rock off the hub when you're going to torque the bolt up?
