wish i read this last night when you posted but if you're going out tonight, park at the newport beach pier and you'll find plenty of local dive bars. here's an address to one:

everything's walking distance from the pier parking lot (i used to live a block from the pier and walked everwhere). parkings also free at night till morning.
and if you're going into LA, hit up the Standard:
