I chose the Forge because of the craftsmanship, factory connectors, and overall material quality in Forge parts. I also did back to back dyno runs after installing one on my 135i and was impressed with the gains...12whp if I recall correctly on a car with only a BMW Perf flash. IATs were also materially lower as well.
The FMIC has also proven its worth during a few track days as well. I'm happy with the purchase, but I'm sure there are other quality units out there as well. The step design cores just never made sense to me - I don't understand how the awkward turbulence it creates wouldn't offset any benefit gained from additional cooling area. YMMV
