I think that's reflective of the shift in the customer base. Growing up in the 80's, I would very rarely see a BMW, Audi, or Mercedes growing up and I've lived in Westchester & Fairfield counties my whole life. Now they are EVERYWHERE. People were also content with stripped down cars that did nothing but drive because they did not know of anything better. Now people want leather and navigation right out of the box. Airbags and reinforced cabins are required by law and with each new "feature" the weight of the car increases. Hell, the cars that I grew up with barely lasted 10 years before they were just dead. Now even a Hyundai has a 10yr powertrain warranty. We just expect MORE from our cars than every before.
