Funny - I get the same thing and my car is certainly more plain Jane than yours. I've got light tint & smoked side markers, but , with the standard 128i bumpers, it is sedate looking to say the least. Yet still get interest. I've had people pull up to me a stop lights and comment. It's cool having a car that is unique.
