Your title says "near MSRP", yet your post says you won't pay a premium. ??? Do you expect to find one at a discount? Picky about color too?
It seems like there are cars out there with asking prices of $5k over MSRP, which is effectively a 10% premium. Assuming there might even be some negotiating room there, I'm not sure why so many people have a problem just paying the price if they really want the car. Would you rather get an M3 with a $5k discount, or a 1M at a $5k premium? You're likely to lose less money to depreciation with the 1M, even in this scenario, so where's the problem? Sellers don't make the market, buyers do, and if others are willing to pay the price and you aren't then you're probably not going to get a car.
If anything, availability is much worse now that it was a few months ago, and we're likely to see the premiums increase as the number of brand-new cars decreases. At the end of the year a $5k premium might be a very good deal for a new car.
