Your question is somewhat confusing to me, but if you refer to decreased steering response in cars today, a lot has to do with the switch to electric power steering versus hydraulic power steering. EPS doesn't necessarily have "the heavier feel" and feedback you get from HPS, but it does improve MPG. Most enthusiasts complain about EPS and hate it (though, it is getting better as it is improved over time). The majority of people who drive probably don't know the difference, nor care.
Our 1-series is lucky enough to still have hydraulic power steering. Add M3 arms as well, and it gets even better for responsiveness.
