Cutting out the block-off plate ensures that exhuast gasses exit all 4 pipes, so all 4 should definitely be getting dirty. If you were to leave the block-off plate OR leave the valve closed with the wireless kit, you would only have the inner 2 pipes emit gas and only those would get dirty.

As for cleaning the exhaust, i'm not sure, actually. Are there any generally accepted cleaning procedures for titanium?
