I'd say overheating. Then over pressure due to water boil. Check the water pump (Google will tell how), replace refill with bmw coolant, and see if you have any leaks. Overheating may have caused a leak but you should fix pump first. Happened to me at 70k. If your mechanically incline the pump swap should take 4 hours total. Costs 400/500 if you get quality parts.
