Ok... most BMW fuel liters look like this...
The above is an fuel filter for an e39, its located under the drivers feet, UNDER the car enclosed inside a plastic panel.
This is what RealOEM.com lists the fuel filter as part of the fuel pump. I found this picture on the web. So it looks like the filter IS part of the fuel pump on a 128i. And probably a 135i. I know the 1M has a traditional BMW fuel filter under the chassis like all bmw's before.
Btw... there is also another pump or transfer pump since the fuel tank is a saddle shape. So there might be a secondary pump/filter on the "other side" of the fuel tank.
