I don't think that's true. The "Performance" steering wheel (shown above) has the yellow stripe. The "///M Performance" steering wheel has the blue stripe with the M colored stitching. I don't think they make a red one from factory.

Yep, the M Performance version(blue stripe) has the tri-color ///M stitching vs. the white stitching on the Performance wheel w/ the yellow stripe.
There actually is an M Performance wheel available with a red stripe, but it's specifically for the new F30 3 Series models shown
here.
