First, using wheels wide enough to mount appropriate sized auto-x tires will be a poor match for use with winter tires. I assume you are planning to run a street tire class (r-compound tires are not recommended for novice auto-crossers). Why not just use your OE setup for auto-x and buy an inexpensive 17" wheel/snow tire setup for winter? I've driven 4 events on my OE wheel/tire setup and they do OK if inflated properly to prevent rollover (leading the Street Tire class in season points). Yes, the OE wheels are not the lightest, but the runflats can be replaced when they wear out with less expensive tires with more grip. As a novice you will have much more to worry about than wheels/tires for the first season or two.
