It's really personal preference. If you are worried about having to change a tire or call a tow from a flat then go with RFTs. I prefer to just call a tow truck so I run non-RFTs.

I went with 215/45/17 studless snow tires and haven't had any problems. Going into my 2nd winter with these things in Colorado and can't complain at all.

If you get a lot of snow/ice and are going with a dedicated winter set up then don't get all seasons, get a real winter tire like Blizzaks or ExtremeWinterContacts.
