Look... when these new 2nd gen 1-er's come out... BMW will be making what four or five Mini lines. All FWD. And I think it makes sense that BMW would want to share some of the costs(engines) - spread over several model line up.

I think one must remember too that the sole reason BMW came up with the one series cars was to sell more 4 cylinder cars! So that they could get a tax break on the up coming EU laws for corperate CO2 levels.
I understand but it will increase the cost etc...
