The ONLY Mobil-1 oil that is rated LL-1 is this one

Mobil-1 0w40 European Blend LL-1...

Personally I prefer the German Castrol (G.C) over the Mobil-1 oil. I have noticed(as others here have too!) lower oil temps and a quieter engine, esp on cold starts it has less of a metalic clicking.

This is what I use:

Castrol RS Edge LL-4 0w40 (bc I live in Germany with low sulfur fuels!) I think there IS a reason why BMW says to use Castrol oils.

I know. I'm pretty sure I've read "d" BMW's in USA/Canada call for LL-04 though as well (just as trivia). Pump diesel sold in the US is now qualified as "low sulfer", which is fairly recent if I recall.

I haven't noticed any mal-performance with the Mobil 1, but I'll probably try the German Castrol just for fun next time if I still have the car. (To be clear, I mean't Mobil 1 as in "Mobil 1 0W40 LL-01", not just any version of Mobil 1. They had it on the shelf at Wal-Mart so that's what I went with.)
