I will be at this point in June of next year and plan to pass on the extended maintenance. My main logic is that the extended warranties are good deals for the manufacturer which suggests pretty strongly they are not good deals for the consumer. My other logic is that I can afford to even replace the car if it came to that, so I do not need to, in effect, buy insurance against car repair bills.

To me it makes the most sense if getting a big repair bill would be a major hardship. If so, then it may make sense to kind of buy some insurance against that big bill (or prepay a major bill when you have the money to pay it by buying the warranty).
