I have something like this. In german they are sold everywhere. Even at the German grocery stores! lol It is called a:
Reifenbaum or
Reifen baum = "tire tree" in English.
I have use it for my 135i OE summer wheels. 8.5inch wheels fit just fine. I do stack my wheels: 7.5/8.5/7.5/8.5 I think I did try to stack the two rear wheels on top of each other... the sidewalls just barely touch. So 8.5's is about limit. But it would not be that hard to modify one of these tire trees.
I really like using one of these tire trees to store my wheels.
