As the battery gets older and cant hold as much charge the dme compensates for that, it doesn't actually code the battery
If you change to an optima you defiantly have to register it with the dme because from the factory the charging profile is set for a lead acid battery and the optima is a AGM bettery and has a slower charging rate, if you don't do this it, it will kill your optima battery rather quickly.

Understood, if i go with a lead acid battery do you have any recommendations it costs $300+ from the dealership, is there a interstate or ac delco battery that fits physically and can be used performance wise.
