Yes really.. Why do people buy CSL/ M3/ M5 or for VW/ Audi's the RS replica wheels? It's for aesthetics and to look like the more expensive offering. To me it is no different then re-badging a car as an ///M, RS, AMG.
However, unlike the badges, which have little to no effect on actual performance, the replica wheels are usually heavy cast wheels that are more prone to imperfections. To me that is far worse, but most of the hypocrites here will never see it that way.
