This is what the standard bumper looks like if it doesn't have the sport pack fitted. Notice the lack of diffuser.


These aftermarket diffusers replace the plastic "diffuser" in the Sport or "M-Tech" bumper. As there is no diffuser to replace in the standard (non-sport) bumper, they are not compatible with them.

The reason that some people need to modify them is because they're cheap, poorly-made parts that don't fit well. Often, a lot of the tabs or the screw holes won't line up with the corresponding points in the bumper.
Ahh I see, thank you very much. Very informative! Just about to get a 128i base i think for a great deal so I'm just trying to get some info and learn about this. Really appreciate it!
