the pump is a vane type pump. the old ones had internal failure. there isn't any sort of pressure increase, let alone any power increase. it's all in your head. the pump doesn't control how much fuel is being pushed in, all it does is make sure that the injectors have enough pressure to shoot into the combustion chamber. since it's direct injection and the injectors can fire up to 3x in one stroke, it needs enough fuel pressure to shoot into the cylinder. otherwise the compression would shoot the fuel back into the rail...that would be a bad situation.
