Excellent points. And that's why we don't make it a policy of locking any thread asking a question that has been asked before or can be found in the manual.

Sure it's courtesy to use the search function and the manual is an obvious choice to go to for many questions, but sometimes people simply forget to search or can't find the answer readily in a search (i.e. too common a search term) or can get an answer here faster than they can flipping through the manual.

That said, there are some threads mentioned above that are definitely silly though
