sidewall height is a percentage of the tire width. When you have narrower tires up front, you have to choose a higher percentage sidewall height to keep the tires the same or similar overall diameter.

So 235/40 = 94mm sidewall height
and 265/35 = 92.75mm

If you went 265/40 in back, it would be 12mm taller than the front.
