I owned a "Year One of the One" 135i; it is now gone, and I don't miss it. It was, however, and is a great car, but it will need new tires and upgraded suspension in order to handle. In addition, after the straight out speed, it became boring; it is not as involved a driving experience as the 2011 WRX, my wife owns one. For driving, I'd choose the WRX over the BMW. For comfort and a "more refined and mature feel," I'd choose the BMW.
The throws in the BMW are shorter than the WRX; the WRX really benefits from the SSK. I also think the 2011 WRX is much more civilized and refined than previous generations. It is not as raw and visceral as the first generation (bug eye) WRX's were.
