The bars will / won't affect your ride. On a smooth road, or where a bump in the road is even (ie a speedbump), each side (front L&R, or rear L&R) are doing the same thing at the same time, and the bar has no real effect. But do something that only 1 wheel is involved in at a time (railroad tracks at an angle for an extreme example but there are plenty) and ride will be hugely affected. Hitting anything like that at high speed can get interesting.
The trade-off is worth it, but the point is that the ride is indeed affected at times.
