Yes it can, used it to transport my mountain bike as well a few times. It works by removing the front wheel and placing the front fork dropouts in the front receiver and tightening them up. The rear wheel holder adjusts in length to accommodate different size bikes and will hold the rear wheel snugly in position. Let me know if you have any other questions
