They don't give the same effect.
Polishing and waxing provide both higher levels of protection and a much higher finish. This is especially important with Blacks, reds and Blues.
Seriously, you don't spend a lot of polishing products - a £20-£30 tub of wax should last a minimum 3 years, and if not, too much is being applied.
My cleaning kit probably totals £200 but will easily last 3-5 years and I will use it on both cars.
