I would rather get the color I really want then settle for something just because it might look cleaner longer(same dirt just hides it better). I am an obsessive compulsive car detailer so the choice is easy for me. It might be more frustrating though in your climate to find a non frozen water source to keep up with washing.

I am the one outside the neighbors mock while snow is falling during the weekly wash. I keep the hose indoors right before I begin the wash and if you work diligently I am able to finish before the hose freezes. Problem is that you can create an ice slick on the driveway so I drop some salt as I work. Also helps if you prepare the wash bucket in doors with warm water to keep your hands warm.

If you use a high quality wax-sealant(zaino) in the late summer you should be able to get through the winter on weekly(approximately) washes.

Final Word: To me nothing is more satisfying than black glass.(Well almost...)
