I'll have to try setting mine up again, because this is definitely not how they are working. In fact, I have different M1 and M2 settings than my wife.
Each FOB currently returns the seat to the last position it was in for that FOB, regardless of how the seat got to that position (memory button or directional controls). This is the same in my e46 as well. Maybe there is something to the sequence of events, to tie the FOB to a memory button, rather than just the last position.
Also, I am not sure how to push the start button, without starting the car. Is that a comfort access feature, maybe?
