I have read the opposite of this (on the internet, so take it for what it's worth). I've read that the charge profiles for new/old OEM batteries differs. I think you have to reset something in the computer so it knows that a new battery has been installed at the least so that it can modify the charging profile for it. The charging profile helps extend the length of the battery.
