Given the N55 uses completely different injectors to the N54 I doubt that they are involved in this:

Also given that the turbo set up is completely different I'd guess that the waste gate chatter is not reason for the changes either.

I know my comments don't really shed any more light but hopefully they eliminate a couple of options.
