The clock will put a very small load on the battery. If the hood has a light, then it is another load. There maybe other things that need to be kept hot similar to the instant-on feature of some electrical appliances.
Also the OP did jump the battery, and BMW has a specific way to do this procedure. This is a bad idea if you don't do it correctly and can cause damage to sensitive electrical components.
