Bump stops which are slightly larger/taller, with a stiffer, progressive in hardness (or two piece?) rubber would be ideal, as it would act like a helper spring.

Bump stop can not add damping force as it will more or less act as a secondary spring and you will need more damping just to control its rebound.
If you have sufficient travel in the strut, you may be able to get away with a shorter and slightly softer bump stop to allow just a bit more compression travel and a softer landing.
