I stand to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure the diff has to be standard, along with things like brakes and gearbox. I had a good look at the two 335i entries at this year's Bathurst 12 hour and apart from some mandatory racing stuff (fuel tank, roll cage, cutoff switches, etc..) they were fairly standard. Admittedly they had a good part of the interior striped out.
