The Conti DWS have a cool feature on the actual tire threads there is a DWS embedded in the thread and once the thread gets used up the S symbol gets removed meaning the tire is only capable of driving in Dry or Wet weather then the W and so on..
I had these tires on my 2001 540iA sport pack and they performed decent in 3 inches of snow, they have ridges in them to capture snow because snow sticks better to snow. For the money they are great tires.
