The main sign of a slipping clutch is the RPMs go up, but the speed doesn't change as much as it should. You usually notice it in higher gears. Eventually the speed catches up, or you reduce the throttle and the clutch will grab. If the clutch is slipping on a relatively fast car, it will be obvious that something is wrong.
