Good point. I had not heard of that.
OT, but IMO they should have the map information stored on a CF card, or on flash memory internally. Fewer moving parts, a 4GB card doesn't cost all that much, takes up less space, and is not affected by bumps. I'm not sure why we don't see car companies do this.
