Don't forget there's no direct injection either (no carbon buildup). There's a guy with an E90 325i with over 200,000 miles on it and documented the issues he's had. He's done some DIYing to reduce his ownership costs. Since the E90 325i is similar to our cars its a fair comparison. Personally I'm not overly worried just save a few thousand a year for emergency maintenance costs and find an indy garage that specializes in modern BMW's. Bet you'll end up with surplus cash.
