To help you out with the tint, higher quality tint like formula one, 3m, ect, will come off easier then cheaper dyed tint. Cheaper tint won't want to peal off, depending on how long its been on, it will have baked on and flake off when trying to remove it which is a huge pain. BMW might of noticed it was gonna flake off and decided it wasn't worth the hours of work it get it off.

All you need is a heat gut, a ton of razor blades, and light detergent soap like baby soap mixed with warm water. Heat up the glass, peel off the film and then spray on the water soap mixture and only use sharp blades to scape off the adhesive. You can't do this for the rear window because of the defroster lines, I'd recommend taking it to a shop to get that removed, unless you have a steam gun. Hope this helps.
