I would imagine it is dealer-dependant. When my E46 was in for service, my dealer gave me Z4's and X3's to drive as long as my car was in the shop. Do you ever see any Bimmer's driving around your area with "Courtesy Vehicle" and your dealer name on them? Those are usually the cars they lend out.
