The 90 degree angles are really harsh on flow, the piping size is not ideal for best flow characteristics. The exhaust doesn't even use the inner two pipes of the four. 90% of the air would go out the outer tips because the air would never be able to make that turn with the velocity it'd be traveling at. Its all for looks.
