I am not sure why he was asking if it was "too much power" if he meant "is the extra power worth the money"? Obviously, there are other differences between the two cars in stock form. However, I agree that the main difference is the engine and if you have to ask if it is "too much power", it probably isn't for you.
I guess the same could be said of m3 owners when you ask why they would spend the extra money (much more than $6000) when a 335i can be completely loaded, have a lot of power, and still cost a lot less... Some people spend money for great engines....
