Basically BMW did their math on this part and knew that the cheaper part will fail in xx years and know that by then only xx vehicles will still be on the road and took a chance that money can be saved on the original part. this is why these recalls come only after a lot of these vehicles may be on the third owner that may not be traceable anymore or in the scrap yard.
