We'll have to wait until someone's turbos blow and the dealer really looks hard for evidence of piggybacks. I would be afraid they could record some type of evidence from the ecu during scheduled service but not tell you until you try to have something major repaired under warranty, a couple years down the road.
I realize people on here are saying piggybacks can't be detected but not one person is so confident they've offered to pay for repairs if the dealer (or bmw) does have a way to detect them.
The good thing is the cars are over engineered and the turbos seem to be holding up pretty well running such high boost.
