Sorry to resurrect this thread a bit, but it was the right topic so I figured I'd just continue on...

I'm starting to notice some decreased throttle response/hesitation, so it sounds like some walnuts are in my future. I've seen the BavAuto DIY video and it doesn't look too bad if I'm bored on a Sat. Any recommendation on obtaining the parts for reasonable prices?

As far as preventative steps, it seems the suggestion is to put in an oil catch can like the BMS one. BavAuto seems to suggest that these will greatly reduce/eliminate the carbon build-up. What's the real story there from experience?
