I break my cars in hard. At the extreme I had my Type R Integra on an autox track within 1 week of buying it, temp tags and all. Ran it weekly all the rest of the season, and took it to a road course multiple times that first summer. I ran the heck out of that thing, and was rewarded with a VERY strong engine, which incidentally burned no appreciable amount of oil at all. Even on road circuits!
I don't keep cars for 200,000 miles, so for me, a little extra power is perhaps worth a little less life. YMMV, and all that
