I just PMd Shroom. He said he had looked at a 1M at Perillo at some point and had a PPI done and discovered it had a lot of paintwork done (i.e. accident). This car passed through Chicago, so I'm hoping he can tell me if its the same car or not. Perhaps it is, which would be a disappointment but perhaps explain why Perillo finally ditched the car to another dealer.
EDIT: I continued digging and found a thread he posted the results in- looks like it is for a different car (WBSUR9C59BVT47621) than the one I am considering (WBSUR9C59BVS96556).
Still a good cautionary tale and reason to pay $150 to have it PPId, even if it is certified.
